Fabl’s workflow automation engine lets you connect production events to actions so your team spends less time on coordination and more time creating. Whether you want to export a rundown the moment it’s approved, ping your Slack channel when a show goes live, or send a weekly PDF digest to stakeholders, you can build that logic once and let Fabl run it automatically every time the conditions are met.Documentation Index

What workflow automation does
Automations in Fabl follow a simple trigger → action model. A trigger is an event that happens inside (or outside) Fabl — such as a segment being marked complete or a scheduled time arriving. An action is what Fabl does in response — such as sending a Slack message, exporting a file, or updating a status. You can chain multiple actions onto a single trigger and add conditions to make automations fire only when specific criteria are met.Concrete automation examples
Here are a few ways teams use Fabl automations day-to-day:- When a rundown is approved → export a PDF to Google Drive and notify the production lead in Slack.
- When a show starts → post a countdown message to the #on-air Slack channel so the whole team is in sync.
- When a segment is marked complete → send an email summary to the assigned editor with a link to review.
- Every Friday at 5 PM → export the weekly show schedule as a CSV and email it to your stakeholders list.
When to use automations
Automations are most valuable when a task:- Happens repeatedly on a predictable schedule or in response to a known event.
- Requires notifying people across multiple tools (Slack, email, Google Drive).
- Is error-prone when done manually (e.g., forgetting to export before a deadline).
- Creates a bottleneck because it depends on one person to remember to do it.
Automations run in the background and do not interrupt your live production view. You can enable, disable, or edit any automation at any time without affecting shows that are currently running.
