# Scripting in Fabl: Write Better Video Scripts Faster

Fabl's script editor is purpose-built for video production, giving you a single workspace where you write, refine, and organize scripts that connect directly to your rundowns and segments. Whether you're producing a news broadcast, a branded video series, or a live event, the script editor keeps your words and your production plan in sync from first draft to final take.

## What the Script Editor Does

Every script in Fabl lives alongside your production data. As you write, Fabl tracks version history so you can review earlier drafts, roll back changes, and collaborate without fear of losing work. Scripts attach to rundowns and individual segments, meaning your production team always knows which words belong to which part of the show — no more mismatched documents floating in email threads.

The editor pairs a clean writing surface with AI assistance that understands video production context. You can generate a full draft from a rough outline, adjust tone and style to match your brand voice, and let Fabl automatically build a shot list from the script you've written — all without leaving the editor.

## How Scripts Connect to Rundowns

Scripts in Fabl are not standalone documents — they are first-class objects in your production workflow. When you create or open a rundown, each segment can have its own linked script. Changes you make in the script editor are reflected in the rundown view immediately, so producers, directors, and on-air talent are always reading from the same source.

  You can also create scripts independently and link them to a rundown segment later. Navigate to the segment's detail panel and use the **Link Script** option to attach an existing script.

## Version History

Fabl saves a version snapshot each time you manually save or when the auto-save interval triggers. To access version history, open the script editor and click the **History** icon in the top toolbar. From the history panel you can:

* Browse a timestamped list of all saved versions
* Preview any past version in a read-only side-by-side view
* Restore a previous version as the current working draft

  Restoring a version does not delete newer versions — it creates a new version entry at the top of the history list, so your full edit trail remains intact.

## Getting Started

    From your rundown, click a segment row and select **Open Script** in the segment detail panel. If no script exists yet, click **New Script** to create one linked to that segment.

    Type directly in the editor, or use [AI Assist](/scripting/ai-assist) to generate a first draft from a bullet-point outline.

  <Step title="Format for Teleprompter">
    When your script is ready for talent, switch to [Teleprompter Mode](/scripting/teleprompter) to apply on-screen formatting and generate a shareable link.

    Once the script is drafted, open the [Shot Lists](/scripting/shot-lists) panel to let Fabl automatically identify and create shots from your script content.
