# Ross Video XPression

> Drive Ross Video XPression graphics from your rundown — take and cue items, run the sequencer, control framebuffers and layers, and fire simulated GPIs.

The **XPression** device controls [Ross Video XPression](https://www.rossvideo.com/) graphics systems, so a rundown item can put a lower third, a full-frame, or a ticker on air at exactly the right moment.

## Connection

Provide the XPression machine's **host** and, if it differs from the default **7788**, its **TCP port**.

## Commands

### Taking graphics to air

| Command | What it does                                                                   |
| ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Take | Loads a take item to air on a framebuffer layer, leaving the focus where it is |
| Cue | Prepares a take item for next air, so the take itself has no frame delay |
| Read | Takes the current sequencer selection to air |
| Next | Takes the current item to air and advances the selection |
| Swap | Loads all cued items in a framebuffer to air together |

### Sequencer

| Command   | What it does                                                 |
| --------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Up / Down | Moves the sequencer selection |
| Focus | Sets the sequencer focus to a take item |
| Up next | Sets the preview to a take item without moving the focus bar |

### Clearing

| Command           | What it does                                          |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Uncue | Removes one item from the cued state |
| Uncue all | Removes every cued item |
| Layer off | Removes a scene from air using the defined transition |
| Clear framebuffer | Clears a whole framebuffer, or one layer within it |
| Clear all | Clears every framebuffer |
| Resume | Resumes all layers in a framebuffer, or one layer |

### Other

| Command | What it does                |
| ------- | --------------------------- |
| GPI     | Fires a simulated GPI input |

<Note>
  Framebuffer numbers are entered as XPression shows them, starting at 1.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Pair **Cue** with **Take** for the tightest on-air timing: cue the graphic when the item is cued in [studio mode](/production/studio-mode), then take it when the item goes on air.
</Tip>

## State and triggers

The device reports its connection state and raises a trigger when the connection changes.
