# Components

> Components are reusable, parameterized building blocks you define once and add to any page as an independent copy.

A **component** is a reusable building block you define once and reuse across pages. Components live in their own section of your workspace, separate from spaces and folders.

## How components work

A component bundles a layout and a set of blocks — fields, media, containers, and references — into a single reusable unit. A common example is a lower-third graphic with name and title fields, defined once and dropped into every rundown that needs it.

When you add a component to a page, Fabl inserts an **independent copy** of it. Filling in the copy on one page does not change the component or any other copy. If the component changes later, existing copies are left as they are; you can refresh a copy from its source when you want to pull in the latest version.

## Create a component

1. Open the **Components** section and click **New component**.
2. Define its layout and add the blocks it should contain.
3. Optionally assign the component to specific spaces so it appears only where it's relevant.

## Use a component on a page

1. Open a page and use the **+** control.
2. Find your component and select it.
3. A copy is added to the page — fill in its fields for this production.

## Components vs. templates

A **component** is added *inside* a page as one block among others. A [template](/content/templates) creates a whole new *page*. Use components for repeated pieces within pages, and templates for repeated page structures.
